Our mission is to offer Christ to those we encounter and to nurture, equip, and enable persons to become committed Christians in our community and the world beyond.
United Methodists come in all personalities, outlooks, and life experiences. No matter how or where we serve Jesus Christ around the world, United Methodists do God’s work in a unique connectional covenant, concerned about God’s children everywhere.
We speak many languages and live in many countries – with different cultures, ethnic traditions, national histories, and understandings of Christian faith and practice.
Our theological roots are in the Wesleyan and Protestant Reformation and in similar ecclesiastical structures and relationships that date back over 200 years. John Wesley (1703-1791) and other early “Methodists” saw their work in the simplest, most uncomplicated terms: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
Our basic theology and practice is seen in the Wesleyan Quadrilateral, which states that our faith comes from S.T.R.E. (Scripture, Tradition, Reason and Experience). A distinctive emphasis of The United Methodist Church puts a primary reliance on God’s grace, rather than on judgment. This faith is stronger than fear and is lived out through acts of love and service. We live the promise we made the day we joined LaurelHeightsUnitedMethodistChurch… the promise to support this church with our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness. In good times and in tough times, we roll up our sleeves and say, "Let’s get to work," as together we answer the call to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
We love worship, the study of God’s Word, music, church suppers, a sense of community, of belonging, and of sharing with others.
As every church has its own distinctive witness that makes it unique in a community, Laurel Heights UMC has always held to a traditional style of worship. Still today, we offer traditional worship at both of our main Sunday morning main services (8:30 and 11:00), as well as an informal communion service on Wednesday nights (6:15).
Regardless of where you are in your spiritual journey, we invite you to join us as we walk with Christ together, seeking the One who has the answers to life’s dilemmas and can provide the peace that passes all understanding. Our hearts, our minds, and our doors are always open.
