The choirs of Laurel Heights United Methodist Church and Christ Episcopal Church together with members of the San Antonio Symphony present a Charity Messiah  Concert (Handel’s Messiah Part III with highlights from I and II of the world-famous oratorio at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place on Sunday, March 28 at 3:30 pm. The concert is sponsored by Christ Church Friends of Music. 

Handel created the Messiah originally to help raise money for the poor, so the aim of this city-wide event is to follow in this tradition. Proceeds will go to Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM) and SAMMinistries of San Antonio.

Tickets are $18 in advance ($20 at the door) for adults and $6 ($8 at the door) for students. There is also a special donor level called the composer’s circle at $40 per ticket that will include reserve seating and a special reception with the artists after the concert. Music directors Owen Duggan of Christ Episcopal Church and Jerome Malek of Laurel Heights United Methodist Church will conduct the 75-voice choir. Soloists are Angela Malek, Gail Wettstein, Laura Grindle, Jennifer Halteman, Larry Amos, Carr Hornbuckle and special guest bass-baritone Naymond Thomas. Dr. Thomas has performed at New York City Opera, Covent Gardens and San Francisco Opera, to name a few.
